Lionel Messi Astonishing World Cup Records
Lionel Messi has finally fullfilled his career long ambition to lift the FIFA World Cup trophy with Argentina after he guided them to 2022 final win over France in Qatar. In what was an absolute magical night for South American and in perticular Argentina defending Champions France were undone in the hands of Lionel Messi and company. Not only did Messi win the world cup which is his first and third for his native Argentina but he broke all kinds of records in the process.

- Lionel Messi is only the third player in history of Football to play in 5 different world cups. The other two are Cristiano Ronaldo and Lothar Mattheus of Germany.
- Lionel Messi became the only player in world cup history to win two golden ball awards. He won his first back in 2014 world cup when they lost against Germany in the final. And his incredible performances in 2022 world cup also earned him best player of the tournament award.
- Lionel Messi is the only player to have scored in Round of 16, Quarterfinal, Semifinal and the final of the same tournament. No other player in history of football has achieve something similar.
- Lionel Messi became the all-time top goal scorer for Argentina overall and also he broke Gabriel Batistuta's record of most goals in world cups for Argentina.
- Messi became one of only 5 players to have win the World cup, Champions League and Ballon d'or. Other players include Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Johan Cruyff, Lother Matteus.
